Irish Coffee
Irish Coffee, invented in 1947 by Joe Sheridan in Shannon Airport when transatlantic flights recommenced after WW2. Joe served the travelers an Irish drink, so the obvious choice was tea and whiskey. When he realized that American’s drank a lot of coffee so he carried out an experiment.
Combining coffee with Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and lightly whipped cream, the Irish Coffee is a hot, creamy classic that can wake you up on chilly mornings or a winter night where you wish to keep going.
Ingredients & Requirements
- Freshly ground coffee
- Sugar cubes
- Hot water
- 2 tbsp Irish whiskey
- 1 tbsp Irish cream liqueur
- Dash ground nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions
- Grind coffee and add to the portafilter. Tamp.
- Pull two shots of espresso.
- Add sugar to glass to taste. Pour shots into glass and stir.
- Dilute espresso with hot water to taste, leaving room for remaining ingredients.
- Pour in whiskey and liqueur. Stir.
- Top with fresh whipped cream.
